Egypt to repay $15.5bn debt in 2 yrs

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt is set to repay a total of $15.5 billion in debt dues and interest in the coming two years, data released in Egypt’s international bond prospectus showed.

The most populous Arab country will pay $6.7 billion in 2019 and $8.8 billion in 2020.

The Ministry of Finance (MoF) is set to launch a tender to select an investment bank to manage the international issuance, which should range between $4 billion and $7 billion, denominated in US dollar, Chinese yuan, and Japanese yen next year.

The Egyptian government is currently considering a green bond issue in 2019, a top government official said earlier this month. Green bonds are often characterised by low interest compared to other international bonds.

The MoF seeks to diversify its financing resources by collecting around $20 billion from various currency-denominated bonds until 2022.

The MoF said previously that its debt issuance target fell 20% in November from October.
