Egypt to host 2019 Africa Cup - CAF

Cairo – Mubasher: The Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Tuesday announced that Egypt will host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

In a vote held at a CAF executive committee in Senegal to determine the host of the tournament, Egypt has won over South Africa by 16 votes to one, with one abstention, BBC Sport reported.

Egypt, the Arab world's most populous country, will have just six months to prepare for the continental major sport event, which is to be held in June.

“I want to thank the (CAF) Executive Committee for the trust, and I thank the government for this support…we are ready for this honour,” President of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) Hany Abu Rida said.

The tournament’s original host was Cameroon, but the African country was stripped of the title due to slow preparations.

However, the CAF offered Cameroon a chance to host 2021 tournament, which will mean that the original hosts of both 2021 and 2023 tournaments would delay their tournaments.

The host of 2021 tournament, Ivory Coast, has protested against such decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
