UAE mulls revising laws to promote tolerance – Minister
The UAE’s Minister of Tolerance Nahayan bin Mabarak Al Nahayan

Abu Dhabi - Mubasher: The UAE government is to review laws in order to enhance tolerance legislation, the Minister of Tolerance said.

After declaring 2019 as the year of tolerance, the UAE plans to conduct a three-part analysis of relevant laws, Nahayan bin Mabarak Al Nahayan told Arabian Business.

The move aims to “identify and correct any current legislation that has a negative effect on promoting tolerance or prevents the promotion of tolerance,” he said.

The GCC nation will also work on identifying the needed laws and legislation that “will help promote tolerance, peace and security,” he noted.

Moreover, the UAE’s ministry of tolerance will identify any international legal frameworks in a bid to step up the country’s model of tolerance internationally, the minister added.

Over the course of this year, the UAE’s ministry of tolerance plans to carry out 20 projects in an effort to strengthen tolerance including “festival of tolerance” and a “tolerance in schools” project in private and public schools.

A programme will also be launched to help authors produce books and materials that promote tolerance.

In addition, a cricket competition called “Tolerance Games” was organised for people of different nationalities in the UAE labour camps.
