Riyadh – Mubasher: Dawiyat Integrated Telecommunications and Information Technology, the wholly-owned subsidiary of the Tadawul-listed Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understating (MoU) with Nokia to develop the fifth generation (5G) network in the kingdom.
This collaboration supports the National Transformation Programme (NTP) 2020 and Saudi Vision 2030, and will enable the kingdom's firms to implement digitalisation, SEC’s unit said in a statement.
The two companies will contribute to developing around 10 million smart metres of telecommunication networks, as well as collaborating in providing solutions for the mining sector to use digitalisation solutions.
The solutions provided through gigabit passive optical networks (GPON), multiprotocol label switching (MPLS), and internet protocol (IP) by Nokia will enable Dawiyat Integrated Telecommunications and Information Technology to develop its network, CEO Ahmed Sindi said.
The contract was signed on the sidelines of Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain.
On Sunday, SEC’s unit inked three deals with Chinese companies to cooperate in various technological projects.
