Mubasher: Vodafone Qatar on Sunday announced completing the launch of its GigaNet fibre connectivity across the Aspire Zone sports complex.

With capacity of handling speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second, along with the telecom operator’s live fifth generation (5G) network, this fibre connectivity provides the Aspire Zone with a world-class communications infrastructure, the telecom operator said in a statement to the Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE).

High-speed connectivity and technology will play a major role in the next 2022 World Cup as hundreds of thousands of visitors are projected to descend on the Aspire Zone to watch the Middle East’s first World Cup inside Khalifa Stadium.

In February, Vodafone Qatar announced turning a profit for the first time, logging QAR 117.8 million ($32.24 million) in 2018, compared to losses of QAR 182.2 million ($49.87 million) in the first nine months of 2017.

The Qatari telecom operator’s ordinary general meeting (OGM) approved distributing cash dividends of 5% of the share’s nominal value, or QAR 0.25 per share, for fiscal year 2018.

Vodafone Qatar’s stock fell 0.65% to close at QAR 7.65 on Sunday.
