Mubasher: Demand on US-manufactured products rose less than expected in January, subdued by drops in orders for computers and electronic products, an official report showed on Tuesday.
New orders for factory goods edged up 0.1% or $300 million to $500.5 billion last January, following an unrevised 0.1% last December, the US Census Bureau said.
Meanwhile, analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected factory orders to rise 0.3%.
On annualised basis, US factory orders rose 3.8% in January.
Shipments declined $1.8 billion or 0.4% to $503.1 billion in January, extending their decline for the fourth month in a row.
Unfilled orders also went down 0.1% during the month, totalling $1.181 trillion, while inventories of manufactured durable goods rose 0.5% to $417.2 billion.
It is worth noting that the data were released later than usual after a 35-day partial US government shutdown which ended on 25 January.
By 2:36 pm GMT, the EUR/USD pair edged up 0.04% to $1.1342.
