Software spending in MENA likely to top $6bn

Mubasher: The digital transformation industry for the small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and smart cities across the of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is driving regional software spending to reach $6 billion.

In particular, software spending is considered the fastest growing technology sector across the region; its value has increased by 11% year-on-year to a record-high of $6.2 billion during 2018, according to Gartner, a global research and advisory firm providing insights, advice, and tools for leaders in different fields such as IT and Finance.

“The MENA region is a fast-growth market for digital transformation, as organisations look to gain greater business agility, better understand customer needs and trends, and scale up on emerging technology innovations,” according to a recent press release.

The Global technology company SAP, which operates twelve offices across the region, is advancing its senior leadership to enhance digital transformation in anticipation of digital business growth.

Zakaria Haltout will be the managing director of SAP UAE, advancing SAP’s five-year $200 million UAE investment plan, onboarding customers to SAP’s local cloud data centre, and support Expo 2020 Dubai as a Premier Partner.

Senior vice president and general manager of SAP- Middle East South Gergi Abboud commented, “Record MENA software spend shows that organisations value real-time operations to drive digital business success, from Smart Cities and mega-events, to digital oilfields and connected malls.”
