Bloomberg to hold New Economy Forum in Beijing in November

Mubasher: Bloomberg and a Chinese state-backed think tank on Tuesday announced the second iteration of the New Economy Forum will be held in Beijing next November, according to a statement by the media giant.

The global forum, which was launched by US media titan Michael Bloomberg in 2018, will be held on 20 and 22 November and will be co-hosted by Bloomberg and the China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE).

On the shores of Yanqi Lake, looking out at the Great China Wall, over 500 of the world’s top business executives, technology innovators, government officials, experts and academics will congregate from more than 60 nations.

Participants in the high-profile summit will propose solutions to the existing huge disruption, at the time when the balance of global economic power shifts towards the Asia Pacific region.

“We are experiencing a period of profound change in the world, where new economic centres are emerging, new trading alliances are being formed and new technologies are upending industries,” Bloomberg said.

“The New Economy Forum will address these seismic shifts through high-level and frank dialogue, while also fostering private-public collaboration,” he added.

Microsoft’s co-founder Bill Gates, former US State Secretary Henry Kissinger, former US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and former Chinese vice-premier Zeng Peiyan are among the prominent figures that will attend the event.
