UAE – Mubasher: The UAE’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the India-based information and technology services and consulting company Tata Consultancy Services LLC (TCS) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for collaboration in research and development (R&D).

Under the MoU, both entities will cooperate to experiment the use of technology in analysing the attitudes of motorists in Dubai via a smart app, according to a press release on Wednesday.

The MoU was signed by CEO of Licensing Agency at RTA Abdullah Yousef Al Ali and Ajay Singh, regional director of TCS, at RTA’s headquarters.

Commenting on the signing of the MoU, Abdullah Yousef Al Ali, said: “The MoU provides for a 3-month trial period where the smart app (Data Logger) developed by TCS will be uploaded onto Android phones fitted with a GPS navigator and a 9-Axis IMU of select categories of volunteered RTA’s drivers and university students”.

Through the app, the system will monitor and analyse the conduct of motorists in terms of over-speeding, veering, and sudden braking, the release noted.

The conduct of drivers will be analysed through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) applications to verify driving violations.

The will provide support the research and development efforts at both RTA and TATA and provide them with reports on drivers’ violations related to age, occupation, timing, and location.

“Developing the system serves RTA’s strategic objective of protecting the safety of road, riders and pedestrians through the test-run of various smart systems and technologies,”  Al Ali said.

“The signing of the MoU is in line with Dubai Government drive to promote public-private partnerships (PPP) as a means of leveraging services and research and developments efforts, besides contributing to its vision of Safe and Smooth Transport for All,” he added.
