Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Emirates Telecommunication Group (Etisalat) on Wednesday announced it has provided Abu Dhabi’s new international airport, the Midfield Terminal Building (MTB), with fifth-generation (5G) network.
By this step, Etisalat has become the first mobile operator in the MENA region to offer 5G coverage inside an international airport, according to a press release.
Moreover, the MTB will be the first airport terminal in the region to deliver 5G network via Etisalat.
Etisalat and Abu Dhabi Airports have collaborated to deliver the 5G coverage at the MTB before its official opening.
Etisalat has introduced its 5G digital indoor active systems at the MTB, which will pave the way for new business opportunities for B2C segments.
Saeed Al Zarouni, senior vice president of mobile network of Etisalat, said: “Etisalat is working closely with smartphone brands to launch their devices on our 5G network as well as in the MENA region. Our aim is to ‘Drive the Digital Future to empower societies’ that will bring digital capabilities and benefits across the region.”
Etisalat seeks collaboration with major smartphone brands which could accelerate the launch of its 5G service by the second quarter of this year.
The leading telecom firm is actively extending its 5G presence in the UAE with the installation of 1000 mobile sites underway by end of 2019.
