Majid Al Futtaim seeks to gain foothold in Uganda with 1st Carrefour store
Uganda’s first Carrefour store will be opened at Oasis Mall

UAE – Mubasher: Majid Al Futtaim, a Dubai-based holding company, on Monday announced it will open its first Carrefour stores in Kampala, Uganda in the forthcoming months.

Uganda’s first Carrefour store will be opened at Oasis Mall, with over 150 employees recruited for its maiden Ugandan outlet, according to a press release.

By opening this store, local customers in Kampala and its surroundings will be able to buy quality products at reasonable prices and enjoy a combination of offers and promotions within an excellent shopping experience.

This comes following the successful opening of Carrefour in Kenya, which will boost the group’s position as a leading customer-centric retailer, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Retail Hani Weiss said.

“Uganda is considered one of the fastest growing economies in Africa, and we are delighted to partner with local stakeholders to offer a world-class retail experience to the Ugandan community, specifically tailored to their needs,” Weiss commented.

The Emirati retailer plans to open its second Carrefour store Uganda in early 2020 at Metroplex Kampala as part of its expansion strategy, seeking to offer 150 additional direct and indirect employment opportunities for locals.

Majid Al Futtaim has the exclusive franchise rights to manage Carrefour in 37 countries and currently operates over 270 Carrefour stores in 16 countries including the East African country.
