Egypt-Sudan power interconnection project starts operation by end 2019

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt has completed all procedures regarding the electricity interconnection project with Sudan through establishing several infrastructure projects and building power towers, spokesperson of the electricity ministry Ayman Hamza said.

The electricity interconnection project is expected to be operated by the end of 2019, Hamza told Mubasher on Tuesday.

The estimated investment cost of the project in Egypt is $56 million (EGP 928.38 million), he added.

The electric Interconnection project at 220 kilovolt (kV) will have a capacity of up to 300 megawatt (MW) in the first phase, according to an agreement signed by Egypt and Sudan in April 2018.
