Mubasher: The UK signed a contract worth GBP 350 million ($425.88 million) with Rolls-Royce under which the engine maker would be responsible for the maintenance for the engines of Typhoon fighter aircraft.
The contract will provide support for the EJ200 jet engine until 2024, Reuters reported.
Moreover, Rolls-Royce will be require to provider modules, spares and accessories to support the Typhoon fleet.
“Not only will this contract help to maintain our world-class jets, it secures 175 jobs across the UK and boosts the skills base our world-leading defence industry relies upon,” junior defence minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan was quoted by the news agency.
It is worth noting that the Typhoon aircraft is the backbone of the Royal Air Forces’ (RAF) fighter jet aircraft.
Over the past three years, the RAF’s Typhoons underwent a GBP 425 million upgrade programme.
“Together with our multi-million-pound upgrade programme, this contract will ensure our Typhoon fleet continues to dominate the skies in the decades to come,” Trevelyan said.
