N.Korea’s Kim invites Trump to visit Pyongyang–Report

Mubasher: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un invited US President Donald Trump to visit Pyongyang, in a letter sent last August, Reuters said, citing a South Korean newspaper.

Amid the stalled talks on denuclearising the Korean peninsula, Kim voiced his “willingness” for a third summit, and he extended an invitation to President Trump to visit the North Korean capital, the Joongang Ilbo newspaper reported, citing diplomatic sources.

Earlier in last August, Trump said he received a “very beautiful letter” from the North Korean leader.

Last week, Trump said he would be willing to meet Kim to resume the talks at some point later this year.

Since June last year, both leaders met three times to discuss the ways to end a crisis over North Korea’s nuclear programmes, but no breakthrough progress was seen.

The first two meetings were official summits, the second of which was held in Vietnamese capital Hanoi last February, but with no progress in narrowing the gap between Washington’s demand for denuclearisation and Pyongyang’s demand for sanctions relief.
