Eurozone current account surplus expands in July

Mubasher: The Eurozone’s current account surplus grew in July compared with June, but it dropped over the 12-month period ended the reported month.

The Eurozone ran a current account surplus of EUR 21 billion ($23.21 billion) last July, compared with EUR 18 billion in the previous month, the European Central Bank’s data (ECB) said on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Eurozone surplus declined to EUR 317 billion in the 12 months ended last July, accounting for 2.7% of the 19-member single currency bloc’s gross domestic product (GDP), compared with EUR 383 billion in the same period last year.

Goods, services, and primary income posted surpluses of EUR 26 billion, EUR 6 billion, and EUR 2 billion, respectively during July.

Meanwhile, secondary income saw a deficit of EUR 14 billion, partially offset those increases.

By 8:49 am GMT, the EUR/USD pair rose by 0.24% to $1.1057.
