Turkey risks losing 700,000 tourists on Thomas Cook collapse

Mubasher: Turkey’s tourism sector could lose a range of 600,000 to 700,000 tourists per annum after the collapse of UK tour operator Thomas Cook, Reuters said, citing the country’s Hotelier Federation.

There are 45,000 tourists in Turkey who arrived from the UK and the rest of Europe through Thomas Cook, the federation’s chairman Osman Ayik told the news agency.

The UK travel firm collapsed after it announced the failure of its last-ditch appeal for GBP 200 million bailout.
The UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said that more than 600,000 vacationers have booked through the company, with more than 150,000 UK customers now abroad.

Thomas Cook owes from GBP 100,000 to GBP 200,000 to certain small hotels, who are at risk of suffering losses as a result of the collapse.
