Egypt, China ink $571m contracts to build electric railway project
The new railway is expected to serve about 350,000 passengers daily

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt signed contracts at a combined value of $571 million with China’s AVIC international for setting up and maintaining electric railway system linking Salam City, the New Administrative Capital, and 10th of Ramadan City. 

One deal includes maintaining locomotives and systems of the project for 13 years at a value of $110 million, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Transportation.

In addition, contracts worth $451 million were signed for implementing the project’s civil works which have already started in May.

Operating over a 70-kilometre route, the new railway is expected to serve about 350,000 passengers every day from eleven stations.

The project will be implemented over a period of 24 months.
