China’s Tencent posts 13% profit drop in Q3

Mubasher: Chinese game maker Tencent on Wednesday reported that its net profit fell by 12.6% year-on-year, while its revenue jumped by 20.65%, according to the company’s financial results.

Tencent’s net profit totalled 20.38 billion Chinese yuan (RMB) ($2.91 billion)  in Q3-19, compared with RMB 23.41 billion in Q3-18.

This meant earnings per share (EPS) of RMB 2.127, down from RMB 2.440, assuming dilution.

Operating profit amounted to RMB 25.83 billion, compared with RMB 27.86 billion, with operating margin shrinking to 27% from 35%.

The world’s biggest gaming firm generated RMB 97.24 billion during the three-month period ended last September, compared with RMB 80.6 billion in the comparable period last year.

Media advertising revenues came in at RMB 3.7 billion, dropping by 28% year-on-year, “due to uncertain content scheduling and lower sponsorship advertising revenues,” according to the financial results.

Revenues from personal computer (PC) client games fell by 7% to RMB 11.5 billion.
