UAE – Mubasher: Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE), the principal partner for Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2020 (ADSW), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the leading intergovernmental organisation for energy transformation, to facilitate the exchange of experiences and practices while advancing the energy transformation process in Abu Dhabi.
The MoU, which is a testament to DoE’s commitment to lead Abu Dhabi’s journey to sustainable development, will assess the development of training systems while contributing to capacity building, according to a press release on Thursday.
Signed during the ADSW, the deal will focus on projects and practices that increase renewable energy scenarios share in the energy mix. This will draw more foreign investments and will promote Abu Dhabi’s leadership in the global energy sector.
In this regard, undersecretary of the DoE, Mohammed Bin Jarsh Al Falasi, said, “The department’s goal is to achieve the government’s orientations to improve all sectors, attain economic, social and environmental sustainability, and create a promising future for forthcoming generations.”
DoE sets up new innovation platform
In the meantime, DoE announced the launch of ‘Department of Energy Innovation Platform’ to boost innovation in line with Abu Dhabi’s strategic goals and DoE’s efforts towards energy transition.
The platform brings together innovators and experts from the energy sector, owners of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), students, as well as the local and global community to present innovations and proposals in nine main categories in the energy and sustainability sector, according to a statement.
Moreover, the energy transition will "ensure a secure supply, drive economic and social development, and achieve environmental sustainability,” DoE’s executive director of strategic affairs, Abdullah Mohammed Al Khumairi, clarified.
“Promoting a culture of innovation and seeking solutions that enhance and streamline operations is a defining issue of our times. The Department of Energy Innovation Platform will address the energy goals of the society to support the economy and the environment - the three pillars of the UAE’s energy transformation,” he concluded.
