Cairo – Mubasher: Trade exchange between Egypt and the UK reached GBP 1.7 billion ($2.29 billion) during the first nine months of 2019, marking a 9.4% year-on-year growth.
Egyptian exports
Egyptian exports to the UK went up to GBP 720.8 million in the nine-month period ended 30 September, compared to GBP 680.8 million in the year-ago period, according to a statement released by the Egyptian Ministry of Trade and Industry on Monday.
Over the last three years, main exports to the UK included electric cables, mineral oils, petroleum products, fertilizers, vegetables, fruits, ready-made garments, inorganic chemicals, plastics, textiles, carpets, iron and steel products, ceramics, paper products, and furniture.
Egyptian imports
Meanwhile, UK exports to the most populous Arab nation stood at GBP 1.043 billion in the January-September period of 2019, compared to GBP 931 million in the corresponding period a year earlier.
During the past three years, UK exports to Egypt were led by iron and steel products, pharmaceutical products, machinery and equipment, potato seeds, mineral fuel and petroleum, vegetables, plastics, and fragrant plants.
UK investments
The statement showed that the value of UK investments in the North African nation amounted to $5.348 billion, mainly focused on the industrial sector.
