Boursa Kuwait ends week in red amid thin liquidity

Mubasher: Boursa Kuwait ended the first week of February on a negative note amid lower turnover.

The All-Share Market index lost 48.8 points or 0.77% to 6,324.99 points over the course of this week.

Likewise, the Premier Market index fell by 50 points or 0.71% to close at 6,983.71 points this week, compared to 7,033.48 points a week earlier.

Meanwhile, the Main Market index declined by 47.4 points or 0.96%, ending the week at 4,874.95 points from 4,922.34 points in the previous week.

The bourse’s turnover shrank by 26.8% to KWD 160.81 million over the five-session week from KWD 19.6 million, while the market’s trading volume plunged by 37.1% to 1.061 billion shares this week from 1.687 billion the week before.

The number of transactions amounted to about 42,060 this week, down by 14.3% from around 49,060 a week earlier.

Market capitalisation lost KWD 278 million or 0.77% to KWD 35.762 billion over the course of the week, compared to KWD 36.040 billion in the prior week.

Since early 2020, Boursa Kuwait’s market capitalisation gained KWD 125 million or 0.35% from KWD 35.637 billion at the end of 2019.
