Cairo – Mubasher: Electricity produced by renewable energy in Egypt is expected to reach around 6,628 megawatts (MW) by the end of 2021, Egyptian electricity minister Mohamed Shaker stated on Thursday.

Total electricity produced by renewable energy plants amounted to 5,852 MW, he added.

The minister referred to the completion of the 1,465-megawatt Benban Solar Park in partnership with 32 companies.

Around 7,600 square metres lands were allocated to renewable energy projects, including wind and solar power projects, Shaker said.

Shaker noted that more than 28,000 MW were added to the national power grid during the last five years.
