Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s annual headline inflation rose by 1.6% month-on-month in April, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said in a statement on Sunday. 

The consumer price index (CPI) increased to 107.5 points last month from 105.8 points in March, data showed.

The rise in inflation rate was ascribed to an increase in prices of fruits, vegetables, fish and seafood, dairy, cheese, and eggs, ready-made garments, and outpatient services by 13.9%, 9.5%, 9.1%, 0.4%, and 0.5%, and 0.9%, respectively.

On the other hand, the fares of private transportation declined by 2.9%.

Year-on-year, the annual headline inflation registered 5.9% in April, compared to 12.5% in the same month a year earlier.
