EGX loses EGP 22.7bn in market cap in May
The market’s turnover amounted to EGP 53.2 billion

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Exchange’s (EGX) indices closed May on a negative note with the market cap losing about EGP 22.7 billion.

The benchmark EGX30 index fell by 3.16%, ending the fifth month of 2020 at 10,220 points.

Likewise, the EGX70 EWI dropped by 5.33% to 1,159 points, while the EGX100 EWI slid by 6.14% to 1,872 points.

Meanwhile, the equal-weighted EGX50 index went down by 7.22% to close at 1,515 points.

The market cap value lost about EGP 22.7 billion or 4% month-on-month to EGP 548.7 billion at the end of last month.

Over the course of May, the market’s turnover amounted to EGP 53.2 billion after 5.167 billion shares were traded through nearly 454,000 transactions.

Foreign investors were net sellers with EGP 882.2 million, while Arab investors were net sellers with EGP 129.1 million.
