Saudi holdings of US T-bonds down to $134.4bn in December
Saudi investments in US debt instruments were down by 2.3% monthly in December.

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia has lowered its investments in US Treasury bonds (T-bonds) in December 2020 following a four-month successive rise.

The Gulf country’s holdings of US T-bonds declined by $45.4 billion in December 2020 to $134.4 billion, compared with $179.8 billion in the same month in 2019, as shown by data from the US Department of the Treasury.

On a monthly basis, Saudi investments in US debt instruments were down by 2.3% or $3.2 billion when compared to their level in November 2020 at $137.6 billion.

The GCC state ranked 14th among holders of US debt instruments by the end of 2020 on a list topped by Japan and China with $1.257 trillion and $1.062 trillion, respectively.

Among Arab states, Saudi Arabia held the first position, followed by Kuwait and the UAE with $46.1 billion and $36.3 billion, respectively.
