Huawei to launch new operating system for phones

Mubasher: Huawei Technologies will be launching Harmony, its new operating system for smartphones, on 2 June, Reuters reported.

Using Huawei’s own operating system means the company will no longer be reliant on the Android operating system.

The Chinese company aims to recover from the damage resulting from the US sanctions on its mobile phone business in 2019, which banned Google from providing technical support to new Huawei phone models in addition to access to Google Play Mobile Services.

Huawei is currently in 6th place globally with a 4% market share in the first quarter (Q1) of 2021.

In May 2019, the US administration had decided to relax some trade restrictions imposed on Huawei back then, in a bid to reduce disruption for the Chinese company’s customers worldwide.
