Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, El-Sayed El-Quseir, said that the country implemented about 320 agricultural projects at a cost of EGP 40 billion during the last seven years.

The most prominent project is the New Delta project launched by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for developing 2.2 million feddans, representing 30% of the Delta, El-Quseir added in a statement on Thursday.

The project is aimed at cultivating 1 million feddans at a cost of about EGP 300 billion, primarily relying on groundwater and treated agricultural wastewater for irrigation.

The remaining area will be used for establishing new agricultural and urban communities and agro-based industrial complexes.

The ministry’s plans also include the launch of 1.5 million-feddan reclamation project through the Egyptian Countryside Development Company, along with cultivating more than 1 million feddans in Sinai and New Valley, as well as Toshka, North Coast, Dabaa Axis, West Minya, and South Nasser Lake.

During 2020, the country exported 255 agricultural products to 150 countries. A total of 38 markets were opened to Egyptian agricultural exports during the last three years, the most important of which is the Japanese market which approved the entry of Egypt’s agricultural exports in November 2020.

Egypt also overtook Spain as the largest exporter of oranges in the last period.

The country’s exports of fresh agricultural products reached 5.2 million tonnes at a value of $2.2 billion during 2020.
