ADNOC joins Hydrogen Council to accelerate hydrogen adaptation

ADNOC joins Hydrogen Council to accelerate hydrogen adaptation
ADNOC seeks to boost its existing hydrogen production

UAE - Mubasher: Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has joined the Hydrogen Council, an international organisation that aims to accelerate the global position of hydrogen through its more than 100 member companies from over 20 countries.

This membership is part of the objective of ADNOC and the UAE to capitalise on hydrogen and its carrier fuels as a new source of low carbon energy, according to a recent press release.

ADNOC seeks to boost its existing hydrogen production, infrastructure, partnership base, and vast reserves of natural gas to lead Abu Dhabi and the UAE’s hydrogen activities to be able to become one of the world's lowest-cost and largest producers of blue hydrogen.

Established in 2017, the Council comprises some of the world’s largest companies, particularly in the energy and transportation sectors.

By 2050, hydrogen is expected to meet 18% of global energy demand, with more than 30 countries having set hydrogen roadmaps and more than 228 large-scale projects underway along the value chain, according to the organisation.

The UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNOC, Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, said: "ADNOC is an early pioneer in the emerging market for hydrogen and its carrier fuels, such as blue ammonia, driving the UAE’s leadership in creating international hydrogen value chains and a local hydrogen eco-system."

It is noteworthy to mention that in June, TA’ZIZ signed an agreement for Fertiglobe to join the blue ammonia production project at TA’ZIZ, the new chemicals production hub currently under development at Ruwais in Abu Dhabi.
