UAE - Mubasher: Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) has awarded a contract to construct its new permanent district cooling plant at Al Khail Gate in Dubai with a total value of more than AED 133 million.

The 32,000 refrigeration tones (RT) new plant will cover the Al Khail Gate development, one of Dubai’s residential projects comprising 33 buildings with 5,665 units, according to a press release on Monday.

With 84 plants, a district cooling transmission, and distribution network running for over 350.4 km, the district cooling company owns over 76% of the total district cooling market of Dubai. 

In 2020, the company invested AED 1.39 billion in building new district cooling plants, expanding the pipeline network, concluding contracts to establish thermal energy exchange rooms, and conducting consultation and engineering works.

The CEO of Empower, Ahmad bin Shafar, said: "The new advanced permanent plant will replace the existing two semi-permanent plants."

Shafar added: "Since the last year, Empower has managed to complete the preparation of the new plant site and adopted global design and construction standards."
