Saudi Arabia's holdings of US treasuries retreat 12% in February

Riyadh - Mubasher: Saudi Arabia's holdings of US treasury bonds dropped by $16.20 billion, a 12.20% year-on-year (YoY) plunge, in February 2022.

The Kingdom’s holdings of US treasuries declined to $116.70 billion last February, compared to $132.90 billion in the same month a year earlier, according to the latest data by the US Department of the Treasury.

Accordingly, Saudi Arabia held the 18th position among the top investors in the US debt instruments.

On a monthly basis, Saudi Arabia’s holdings of US treasury bonds in February 2022 decreased by $2.70 billion (2.26% YoY) from $119.40 billion in January.

At the Arab level, the Kingdom topped the holders of US treasury bonds, followed by Kuwait with $50.60 billion and the UAE with $46.30 billion.

Last September, Saudi Arabia's holdings of US treasury bonds stood at $124.30 billion, a decline of 5.30% from $131.20 billion in September 2020.
