Dubai - Mubasher: The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is expected to provide electricity and water services to 5.80 million people in the emirate by 2040 to meet demand forecasts until 2031.

The expansion plans come in line with Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, according to a press release. The government aims to secure 100% of energy production capacity from clean power sources by 2050.

Meanwhile, DEWA offers its services to over 3.51 million people living in Dubai with an electricity capacity of 14,117 megawatts (MW) and 490 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) of desalinated water.

Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, said: “We will continue to implement pioneering projects to diversify Dubai’s clean and renewable energy sources to include all available technologies in Dubai to achieve the wise leadership’s vision for a brighter and more sustainable future for generations to come.”

Last Week, DEWA unveiled AED 40 billion plans for expanding electricity and water projects in the coming five years.
