Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: etisalat by e&, the telecom arm of e&, teamed up with Ericsson to enhance network energy efficiency by deploying the latest Ericsson radio system portfolio across the service provider’s network.

The two-year project comes within the framework of e&’s sustainability plans that were announced in July 2022, according to a recent press release.

The initial deployment phase witnessed up to 52% reduction in energy consumption with Ericsson’s dual-band Radio 6626 when compared to prior deployed radios. The lower energy consumption accounts for 7.60 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per site annually for the sites configured with four long-term evolution (LTE) carriers.

Furthermore, installing Ericsson’s 5G mid-band radios has resulted in 20% advanced energy efficiency compared to the previous radio generation.

The partnership will enable etisalat by e& to evolve its radio access network (RAN) and cut its carbon footprint across the region.

Khalid Murshed, CTIO of etisalat by e&, noted: “We are focused on minimising the environmental impact of our network by pursuing environmentally sustainable solutions that elevate performance quality. The energy consumption reduction witnessed by deploying the enhanced Ericsson Radio System is part of our strategy to build a more sustainable infrastructure across the country.”

Ekow Nelson, Vice President and Head of Global Customer Unit for the operations of e& at Ericsson Middle East and Africa (MEA), said: “The energy reduction in our radios will aid etisalat by e& in significantly cutting down operational expenditure and make significant contributions to our net zero targets.”

Last June, the ADX-listed firm, formerly known as Etisalat Group, launched etisalat by e& as the new brand identity for Etisalat UAE in line with the group's strategy to boost its position as a global technology and investment conglomerate.
