Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Fertiglobe plans to produce diesel exhaust fuel (DEF) from its Egyptian Fertilizer Company (EFC) facility in Egypt to be shipped by OCI in Europe during the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2022.

The trial shipments come in line with Fertiglobe’s objective to diversify its product offering, according to a recent press release.

Known as AdBlue in Europe, DEF is a urea solution that aims to lower environmentally harmful vehicle exhaust nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions from diesel engines.

Europe is a suitable market for AdBlue sales, as demand is backed by strict emission regulations.

Fertiglobe’s facilities across Egypt and the UAE can produce 500,000 tonnes of DEF. Meanwhile, Fertil plant in the Ruwais Industrial Complex in Abu Dhabi generates a small amount of DEF to serve local demand, while both facilities are able to accelerate the production capacity.

Ahmed El Hoshy, CEO of Fertiglobe, commented: “Expanding our sales portfolio to include DEF is a testament to our versatility in the prevailing tight markets and fits well within our sustainability, as well as our overall commercial strategy.”

El Hoshy added: “Fertiglobe is well positioned to further diversify its offering into DEF, an industrial product with robust demand growth driven by its use to reduce harmful NOx emission from diesel engines, which are used every day across the world.”

In the first nine months (9M) of 2022, the ADX-listed firm reported a leap in net profit attributable to the shareholders to $1.07 billion, compared to $336.20 million in 9M-21.
