Cairo – Mubasher: Telecom Egypt has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), the National Telecommunication Institute (NTI), and India’s Tejas Networks to boost local manufacturing in Egypt and establish a training academy.

Under the MoU, Tejas is set to produce telecommunication products using fibre optics, according to a statement.

The protocol provides for granting export incentives to Tejas, which will establish a research and engineering development centre, as well as a technical support centre to serve customers in Egypt, Africa, and the Middle East.

Tejas will also establish an academy to train and certify Egyptian engineers through cooperation with NTI to offer technical support in the fields of networks and fibre optics.

Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat stated that the MoU with Tejas includes manufacturing communication products in Egypt to achieve an added value of at least 45%.

He added that the cooperation with Tejas aims to inject Indian investments into Egypt and localise the communications products industry to develop the digital infrastructure across the country.

Mohamed Nasr Eldin, CEO and Managing Director of Telecom Egypt, said that the MoU with Tejas lays the foundations for a long-term strategic partnership aimed at providing Egypt with the latest telecommunication technology in the world, guaranteeing the best level of infrastructure services to clients.

For his part, Anand Athreya, CEO and Managing Director of Tejas Networks, noted that the MoU with Telecom Egypt and ITIDA is crucial to achieving the goals of the Digital Egypt vision through benefiting from Tejas’ successful experience in designing more than 500 networks in India and abroad.

Athreya added that his company is committed to transferring expertise to Egypt and working as a technology partner to Telecom Egypt, supporting local manufacturing of communication products, as well as research, development, and planning of networks and installation and maintenance thereof.

It is worth noting that Telecom Egypt posted a consolidated net profit of EGP 11.47 billion in 2023, up from EGP 9.18 billion in 2022.
