Microsoft invests $1.5bn in UAE’s AI tech firm G42

UAE – Mubasher: Microsoft has announced investing $1.50 billion in G42, a UAE-based artificial intelligence (AI) technology holding company.

The partnership will help transfer Microsoft AI technologies to the UAE and other countries, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

The partnership includes appointing Brad Smith, Vice Chair and President of Microsoft, as a board member in G42.

G42 will have access to Microsoft’s cloud computing services, including running its AI applications and services on Microsoft Azure, enabling the company to provide services to global clients.

The Emirati company will also collaborate with Microsoft to transfer advanced AI and digital infrastructure to countries in the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa.

Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of G42, said: “Microsoft’s investment in G42 marks a pivotal moment in our company's journey of growth and innovation, signifying a strategic alignment of vision and execution between the two organisations."

“This partnership is a testament to the shared values and aspirations for progress, fostering greater cooperation and synergy globally,” he added.

Brad Smith, Microsoft Vice Chair and President, stated: "Our two companies will work together not only in the UAE but to bring AI and digital infrastructure and services to underserved nations.”

Smith noted: "We will combine world-class technology with world-leading standards for safe, trusted, and responsible AI, in close coordination with the governments of both the UAE and the United States."
