UAE – Mubasher: Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) is planning to expand its green hydrogen production in Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) and along the Mediterranean coast, Mohammad Abdelqader El-Ramahi, Chief Green Hydrogen Officer, told Mubasher.

The expansion will involve building electrolysis facilities with a total capacity of four gigawatts (GW) to produce green ammonia for export and to meet local demand, El-Ramahi added.

He also stated that Masdar is considering expanding renewable energy projects in Egypt, such as solar power, in partnership with Infinity Power.

Regarding the planned 10-GW wind power plant in Sohag, El-Ramahi revealed that the first phase of the project will be operational within five years, with the project's allocated land expected to be received soon.

El-Ramahi said that Masdar has initiated discussions with international financing institutions to secure funding for the project.

He expected the financial closure, the pre-funding condition fulfilment stage, of the project within 12 months.

Furthermore, El-Ramahi announced Masdar's intention to expand its operations in Saudi Arabia, Africa, East Asia, and the US.

In March 2024, Masdar unveiled plans to acquire a 50% stake in Terra-Gen Power Holdings II, a large US-based renewable energy power producer.
