UAE, Malaysia in talks for comprehensive economic partnership agreement

UAE – Mubasher: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met with the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi to deepen economic relations between the countries.

Al Zeyoudi also held talks with Malaysian Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Zafrul Aziz to discuss cooperation in technology, manufacturing and services, reviewing progress on negotiating a Malaysia-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, said: “Malaysia is a highly valued and long-standing trade and investment partner for the UAE, and this visit underlines the importance of face-to-face meetings as we seek to elevate our relationship.”

“We look forward to making progress on our CEPA negotiations and securing long-term, sustainable prosperity for both our nations,” Al Zeyoudi added.

For his part, Zafrul Aziz, Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, commented: “The UAE is an important partner for Malaysia in the Middle East with whom we share a mutual commitment to enhancing trade and investment through open and fair-trade practices.”

UAE, Malaysia Host First Joint Economic Committee

The UAE and Malaysia held the first meeting of their joint economic committee in Abu Dhabi to enhance bilateral partnerships in sectors including economy, tourism, SMEs, fintech, renewable energy and logistics.

Co-chaired by the UAE Minister of State Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh and Malaysian Deputy Foreign Minister Mohamad Bin Alamin, discussions focused on innovation strategies to boost trade and private sector contribution.

"The commencement of the first session of the UAE-Malaysia Joint Committee reflects our mutual commitment to deepen current economic relations and extend them to incorporate additional areas of mutual interest,” Al Sayegh said.

He added: “These initiatives are in line with the UAE’s approach and the aspirations of its wise leadership to enhance bilateral cooperation with partners from various countries of the world.”
