Saudi US treasuries holdings soar over 22% YoY in May 2024

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia’s holdings of US Treasury bonds surged by 22.50% year-on-year (YoY), or $25 billion, to $136.30 billion in May 2024 from $111.30 billion.

Month-on-month (MoM), the kingdom’s holdings of US Treasury bonds increased by $900 million from $135.40 billion at the end of April 2024, according to the US Department of Treasury.

Saudi Arabia ranked 17th globally on the list of the largest investors in US Treasury bonds at the end of May 2024.

Japan topped the list with a total of $1.12 trillion, followed by China with investments amounting to $768.30 billion, and then the UK with $723.40 billion.

The value of US Treasury bond issuances amounted to $8.12 trillion in May from $7.45 trillion in the same month the year before.
