Nissan chief to be arrested over financial violations

Mubasher: Nissan’s chairman Carlos Ghosn was interrogated by Tokyo prosecutors, and would be arrested on suspicion of under-reporting his salary, according to Japanese media reports.

Public broadcaster NHK and Kyodo News reported that Ghosn, who is also the CEO of France’s Renault, was to be arrested, while the Asahi newspaper said on its website that prosecutors started searching the offices of Nissan and other locations.

Ghosn is credited for turning Nissan around from near bankruptcy. He began his career at Michelin in France, moving on to Renault.

Ghosn joined Nissan in 1999 after Renault bought a controlling stake in the Japanese auto manufacturer and became its CEO in 2001.
