Cairo – Mubasher: The consumer price index (CPI) in Egypt edged up 0.9% month-on-month in March, recording 307 points the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said in a statement on Wednesday.
Egypt’s annual urban consumer price inflation rose to 13.8% last month, compared to 13.1% in the same month a year earlier, according to the statement.
The CAPMAS attributed the increase in inflation rate to the price hikes of vegetables by 3.9%, poultry by 3.1%, transport services by 0.2%, and restaurant charges by 0.5%.
Furthermore, the state's annual urban consumer price inflation slipped to 14.2% last March from 14.4% in February, Reuters reported, citing the state-run statistics agency CAPMAS.
It is worth noting that Egypt’s annual urban consumer price inflation decreased to 13.9% in February, versus 14.3% in the same month of 2018.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecast Egypt’s annual inflation rate to reach 14.5% in 2019 and to ease to 12.3% in 2020.
