Cairo – Mubasher: China-based Huawei Technologies Company Ltd. will launch the first 5G network services trial in Egypt at the Cairo International Stadium during the period of hosting the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, the Egyptian telecommunication and IT minister said.
Egypt is keen on coordinating with the Chinese company in artificial intelligence (AI), as well as technology transfer and the 5G network services, Amr Talaat added in a statement on Sunday.
This came on the sidelines of a meeting between Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, Huawei’s vice president Li Jie, the company’s regional director for North Africa Robinson Cao, and chairman of Huawei Egypt Vincent Sun.
Madbouli highlighted that Huawei is benefiting from the positive ties between Egypt and China to boost its investments in the North African country, mainly in the field of smart cities.
In January, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that Egypt would host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament after winning over South Africa by 16 votes to one in a vote held at a CAF executive committee in Senegal.
