Mubasher: European aircraft maker Airbus called for “immediate visual inspection” of all recent models of its AS350, AS550 and EC130 helicopters, Norwegian authorities said on Wednesday.
“The connection between the engine and the main gearbox” prompted Airbus to take “a precautionary measure to ensure the continued airworthiness of the helicopter type,” Norway's Accident Investigation Board said.
The emergency alert came against the backdrop of a crash of Airbus AS350 helicopter in Arctic Norway, southwest of Alta last month, killing five Norwegian youth and a Swedish pilot.
The aircraft crashed after “less than 73 flight hours,” agency said.
However, it “has, at this stage, not concluded whether, or not, failure of the connection between the engine and the main gearbox is a causal factor,” adding that the investigation into the issue is still ongoing.
By 9:36 am, Airbus shares traded 0.09% higher at EUR 122.71 ($135.52).
