The company witnessed a continued strong demand for its award-winning line-up while the three SUV models helped the company gain its market share in China, the US, and Europe.

As for its electrified vehicles, Volvo sold 45,933 sold plug-in hybrid models in 2019, a surge of 22.9% compared to 2018 and more than double the sold vehicles in 2017.

The chief executive at Volvo Cars, Håkan Samuelsson, commented: “We aim to build on this positive trend in 2020 as we start to roll out our Recharge range of chargeable Volvos.”

In China, the company’s sales rose by 18.7% to 154,961 cars in 2019, compared to its sales in 2018, hitting the highest level that the company has ever reached in a single market.

Meanwhile, Volvo Cars sold 108,234 cars in the US with an increase of 10.1% compared to its sales in 2018, and over 50,000 cars in Germany for the first time in its history.
