Alexandria Customs issues clearance for EGP 2.8bn cars, spare parts in May
Some cars were exempt from the payment of more than EGP 804 million

Cairo – Mubasher: Alexandria Customs collected total taxes and duties of EGP 807 million for issuing customs clearance for cars and spare parts valued at EGP 2.85 billion in May, the Egyptian Ministry of Finance said in a statement on Wednesday.

The state-run body collected total taxes and fees of EGP 527 million for releasing 6,164 cars with a total value of EGP 1.63 billion in the 17th month of introducing zero tariffs on cars imported from the European Union (EU).

A large number of these cars were exempt from the payment of more than EGP 804 million under the EU-Egypt association agreement and Agadir agreement.

Moreover, Alexandria Customs collected taxes and charges of EGP 140 million for releasing 1,338 trucks, microbuses, motorcycles, and tractors valued at EGP 525 million in May.

Some of these vehicles were exempt from the payment of EGP 30 million under the EU-Egypt association agreement and Agadir agreement.

The state-run body also collected taxes and charges of EGP 76 million for releasing 509 dispatches of spare parts valued at EGP 699 million, while some dispatches were exempt from the payment of EGP 12 million.
